DescriptionSuperb example! Colombia, ca. 800 - 1500 A.D. A fine, cast yellow gold pendant with clouds of rose gold, in the form of a chief/ruler's head wearing an elaborate avian headdress and dangling nose ring. Hollow cast with opening under chin, once contained rattling balls, now gone. Flat-form face with small incuse eyes; raised orbits and cheeks. High bridged, straight nose bears a suspension loop at tip for nose ring. Simple, ovular mouth beneath. Headdress bears a bird, perched at center and cast in the round; tip of his beak, also with a dangling nose ring. The pendant suspension loop emerges from his back. Sides bear two profile bird heads with elongated beaks, spiral elements behind and below. 97.8 grams. 2-3/4"H x 4-1/2”W, both bird beaks at sides have been re-attached, else intact. Casting flaws on chin are somewhat hidden by the nose ring.
