DescriptionAn amazing piece! From ancient Colombia, ca. 800-1500 A.D. High karat yellow gold cast in the lost-wax process in the form of a fierce reptile having an elongated snout with bared, toothy grimace, beady eyes and bifurcated head crest. The slender body portrayed in a crouching position with legs coiled for springing, front legs, each with a suspension loop and erect tail terminating in a double spiral, spectacle motif. 65.4 grams total. 3-1/4"L nose to tail, several tiny pin hole casting flaws, mostly along right side, else intact/excellent condition. Very sturdy and wearable.

ProvenanceEx-private TX Collection, ex-Arte Primitivo. Gold authenticated/validated by Robert Sonin (Pre-Columbian Gold Subject Matter Expert).
