AUTHENTICATION / TL Testing

Need help authenticating an item or a collection? Artemis Gallery provides authentication services including photographing, researching and attributing antiquities from most ancient cultures. Hourly rates apply.

Need a TL Test performed? A Thermoluminescence Test is an important factor when judging the authenticity of ancient art. While it cannot give the complete picture, it gives an absolute, objective measurement of the time since the clay at the sampling site was fired. In addition, it can detect unfired clay and restoration material. If samples are taken from several locations on the piece, TL tests can also indicate if sections were made from similar clay. Artemis Gallery works with Laboratory Ralf Kotalla in Germany and can arrange for all phases of TL testing, from core sample drilling to delivery of final report(s).

APPRAISAL SERVICES

Artemis Gallery provides appraisal documentation that includes item/artist description, provenance and auction records for the artist, general assessment of authenticity, quality, condition and fair market price and replacement value.

In many cases we can provide you with useful information about the identity of an item and its history by posting an image of it together with a proper description to our company.

We also offer a more comprehensive version of art appraisal service for collectors who require a written report. The information provided could be as relatively simple as determining the maker of a specific item or, where that is practically impossible to determine, the school, workshop or manufacturer from which it emanates. Or it could be as relatively complex as providing identity, coupled with original use, place of origin, and social context and historical significance.

RESTORATION, MOUNTING, FRAMING

Artemis Gallery works with several fine vendors and is pleased to be able to offer professional restoration, mounting and framing services at dealer direct prices to help preserve and display your ancient art and antiquities.

Whether a simple stress crack repair or complete reassembly of a badly broken piece, no repair/restoration project is too small (or too large). Working on your behalf, we will obtain estimate(s) and pass our wholesale pricing onto to you!

Some antiquities may require a custom mount or frame to properly display and/or preserve their beauty. We can custom-design lucite and metal stands to display your treasures, or have any piece of ancient art custom-framed to enhance its visual appeal on your wall.
