Roman Bronze Furniture Support - Lion's Paw

Ancient Rome, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A bronze cast lion's paw upon an integrated base with four articulated toes/claws and an upper "leg" that is finely incised with a linear, geometric pattern. The foot was probably intended as a support for a piece of furniture such as a three-legged table or a candelabrum. So finely delineated with a beautiful green patina! Custom metal stand. Size: paw itself measures 1.625" W x 3.75" H (4.1 cm x 9.5 cm)

Condition: Old, minor losses to peripheries of upper leg as shown. Overall excellent.

Provenance: Ex - Private NYC collection
