DescriptionEarly pottery figurine showing Olmec influence and dating between 200 B.C. and 200 A.D. Called Proto-Mayan as these figures were manufactured in the heart of Mayan territory -- the Mexican Yucatan and Atlantic Slope area of Mexico, and Pacific slope of Guatemala -- just as the Mayan civilization was beginning its climb to power. Figure is of a seated female, hands to an enlarged stomach, possibly indicating pregnancy and child-birth, wearing skirt with loin cloth, necklace and large earspools. 4-3/4" H and intact and in good condition save a bit of roughness to top of her hair.
