DescriptionA very fine ancient Greek pottery oinochoe (pouring vessel) manufactured in Athens ca. 520-500 BC. Decorated in black-figure technique with added white pigment with a single panel depicting the seated Dionysus, the Greek god of wine and fertility offering a situla of his favorite beverage to an also seated Ariadne, one of the daughters of King Minos of Crete and his wife for eternity. 8-1/16"H x ~4-1/2"D, intact and excellent, save one small chip to rim of trefoil spout.
