DescriptionManufactured toward the end of the Mayan civilization, most likely in Guatemala, ca 900 to 1000 AD. A fine example of the pottery known as "Plumbate," fired at extremely high temperatures and covered with a lead glaze that when fired properly produced a shiny gray finish, or in many cases a gray and orange mottled surface. Tall-necked olla with abstract glyphs in zoomorphic form adorn the neck, small nodes placed around the body. 7"H x 6-1/2"D at widest, aside from minor rim roughness is intact and in excellent condition.
ProvenanceEx-L. Amiguet Collection, collected in the 1950s.
