Near East, Iran, Marlik, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A lovely burnished orange terracotta pitcher boasting a long, graceful spout of an abstract avian form and a loop handle decorated with a mythological animal with applied bulging eyes and a pointy snout from the Marlik region of the Gohar valley in the province of Gilan in Iran. Despite its minimalist aesthetic, this vessel is quite pleasing for its animorphic forms and attractive silhouette. Size: 10" W x 6.75" H (25.4 cm x 17.1 cm)

Condition: Repaired from approximately five pieces with abrasions to spout and rim as shown.

Provenance: Ex - Zwar collection acquired in various galleries in Tehran between 1977 and 1979
