DescriptionFine and very important Mayan blackware cylinder from the Pacific slope of Guatemala. Ca 500 to 700 AD, this incredible large drinking vessel is decorated with two major carved panels. First panel, which takes up most of one side of the vessel, depicts two seated gods (gods K and L) confronting each other with attendant in the center. Other carved panel consists of two carved glyphs in humanoid head form, stacked one atop another, this panel in textured, textile-like background. Large vessel measuring 6-1/2"D x 8-1/2"H. Broken and repaired with small section of rim with expert restoration, but panels virtually intact.
