DescriptionDuring the early Vietnamese Dynasties, scholarly arts, such as painting and calligraphy or “beautiful writing,” were highly respected and as a result many unique utensils were produced. One such item produced was the water dropper, which was used to dilute the cake of ink on the inkstone to obtain the right consistency for use in painting. Water droppers have been made in white porcelain in Asia since the 14th century. This unique Vietnamese water dropper was molded in the shape of a bullfrog or toad with blue and white glaze. 3" x 1-5/8" x 1-1/2", intact/excellent condition, save minor sea stains and encrustation as shown. Original label.
