DescriptionAncient Terracotta Pottery Oil Lamp, found in the Holyland. Known as Herodian because of its widespread use during the reign of Herod the Great in Israel, ca. 37 to 4 B.C. Wheelmade pottery lamp with spout applied by hand. This type remained in use up to about 150 A.D. in some parts of the Holy Land, but is normally considered to have gone out of general use by 70 A.D. 3-5/8"L x 2-3/4"W x 1-1/4"H, overall encrustation, root markings and minor loss to portion of lip, else excellent.
