DescriptionFrom the Greek colony of Apulia in Southern Italy, ca. 350 AD. A black glazed pottery vessel with bulbous, rounded body, circular foot, long handle and vertical round spout with flat, ridged mouth. The piece has been finished with stamped center, depicting the goddess Athena, shown wearing her Corinthian styled helmet high on her head, long locks of hair flowing beneath. Painted with a large 'X' in red on base, which would have been a maker's mark. Larger than most, standing at 6-1/2"H, intact/generally excellent condition.
