Lot 50g, Auction 12/5/2017: Rare 11th C. Persian Blue-Glazed Oil Lamp

Persia (Iran), Late Abbasid to Fatimed periods, late 11th to mid 12th century CE. A really beautiful small oil lamp, made of a white pottery, glazed in a rare, highly iridescent blue. The design has a small, curled handle on one side and a projecting, cylindrical spout on the other; the sides of the bowl have been pushed in in a regular, scalloped pattern. The glaze is thick, dripping down the sides, to the unglazed lower body and slightly rounded base. A lamp of the classic shape that calls to mind the story of Aladdin! Size: 4.4" L x 2.8" W x 1.4" H (11.2 cm x 7.1 cm x 3.6 cm)

Condition: Handle has been reattached.
