Early 20th C. Trobriand Island Oval Wood Food Bowl

South Pacific Islands, Trobriand, Island, ca. 1920 CE. A fabulous serving bowl or deep tray carved from native hardwood. Elongated oval form carved with continuous scrolling band around the rim rounded bottom left reserved. At this time in this region of the world there was still little contact with the "civilized" western world. A remarkable and desirable example! Size: 17.75" L x 10.25" W (45.1 cm x 26 cm)

Condition: Intact and near choice with wear as expected and lovely deep patina from use.
