Early 20th C. Rare Dayak Incised Wooden Loom Tool

Indonesia, Borneo, Central Kalimantan, Dayak peoples, early 20th century CE. A beautiful and rare item, an elongated ovoid-form wooden loom tool, with pale blue thread wrapped around the interior. The exterior has densely-incised swirling motifs on both sides. Weaving was seen as a crucial skill for a woman of marriageable age in Dayak society, required before she could win the affection of a future husband. Size: 23.5" L x 1.6" W x 1.1" H (59.7 cm x 4.1 cm x 2.8 cm)

Condition: Dark wood patina from handling and age. Slight surface scratching/wear.
