DescriptionExtremely rare example! Ancient Double-Headed Horse, Cypro-Arhaic period, ca. 7th century B.C. Modeled entirely by hand, terracotta horse of attenuated form with triangular legs, hooked tail; double-headed with long necks, and forward-pointing crested manes. Janus, the Roman God of openings and entryways, often is shown as a two-headed figure. The two heads are meant to show transition, particularly from the barbarian to civilization. 7-1/2"H x 2"W, choice condition.
