DescriptionNorthern Peru, dating between 900 and 500 BC. Crafted in the form of a native tree-hanging fruit or gourd – certainly a staple in the diet of this amazing culture. Alternating lobes in white and burnished red, with small stem attachment at upper center and heavy, traditional Chavin double stirrup. 8”H, intact and near-choice with nice areas of firing clouds giving it a somewhat mottled appearance.
ProvenanceEx-private Hinshaw Collection.
