Lot 219, Auction 5/30/2017: Chancay Bi-Chrome Pottery Bowl - Bird Appliques

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay culture, ca. 1200 to 1450 CE. A lovely chocolate brown on cream ground hand painted terracotta round-bottomed bowl with a register of alternating wavy and straight lines on one side and a register of solid bands on the other, as well as a pair of miniature hand-built bird appliques gracing opposite sides of the shoulder. Size: 5.25" in diameter x 2.625" H (13.3 cm x 6.7 cm)

Condition: Losses to the rim as shown. Surface wear with pigment losses, scuffs, and nicks. Areas of manganese deposits.

Provenance: Clemente Revilla collection, brought to United States before 1980
