DescriptionProbably from the Middle Sepik River, East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea, 19th century. Adze with trade iron blade attached to wood cane with leather binding. Dark polished patina on handle, signs of heavy use. May have been used in the preparation of sago, a local food staple. Custom black metal mount. 17"H x 5"W, blade with several chips, else overall very good condition.
