1) Artemis Gallery buys from reputable sources (museums, auction houses, major dealers and collectors around the world).
2) We've handled tens of thousands of ancient items which gives us the ability to know ‘what’ to look for in fake / reproduction pieces. When in doubt, we use experts in their respective fields, plus use respected laboratories to perform TL (thermo-luminescence) testing to confirm an item’s age. No dealer is perfect, but Artemis Gallery takes great pride in saying “we do not sell fakes!”
3) “Is it legal to buy and sell ancient art?” While there are indeed a number of laws governing the sale and purchase of items of cultural patrimony (antiquities), as long as an item has been legally imported into the United States, it's legal to sell and purchase. Laws vary on the required date of importation, but a good general rule of thumb is that the item should have been exported from its home country prior to 1970, when most laws and the UNESCO Treaty on Items of Cultural Patrimony were signed. Artemis Gallery abides by all international laws and treaties with regard to the sale of its items.
