Lot 23h, Auction 12/5/2017: Roman Imperial Redware Bowl w/ Flanged Rim

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A red ware bowl with a flanged rim and a conical shape. It tapers to a flat base. The interior has incised pattern of radiating lines in tondo. Roman workshops mass produced bowls of this style for use in Roman cooking and food serving, and it may have been buried with its owner. Size: 7.3" W x 2.05" H (18.5 cm x 5.2 cm)

Condition: Slight chips to rim and two stable cracks, with light encrustation on surface.

Provenance: private Orange County, California, USA collection acquired before 2000
