Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Atlantic watershed region, ca. 700 to 1000 CE. A human "trophy" head, hand-carved from volcanic stone, strongly rendered with a prominent straight nose contiguous with a horizontal hairline, coffee-bean shaped eyes, a closed mouth, and large saucer-shaped ears. A gruesome reminder of mano a mano (hand to hand) combat in ancient Costa Rica! Size: 5.25" L x 4.75" W x 5.25" H (13.3 cm x 12.1 cm x 13.3 cm)

Condition: Tiny old nick to left ear. Else intact and shows age quite gracefully. Nice mineral deposits.
