It all started with a honeymoon in Greece and Turkey back in 1989… Upon returning from this exciting adventure amidst ruins and endless history, the dream of Artemis Gallery was planted. Like most of our clients, we started with one small piece purchased at a gallery in New York City. One piece became 2, then 5, then 10. To find ways to buy bigger/nicer pieces, we began to sell lower-quality pieces and traded like crazy. Each weekend was spent hunting throughout New England for hidden treasures in antique shops and local auctions. Eventually, the collection began to take shape and a small side-business was born.


In 1994, Artemis Gallery was started by Bob Dodge as one of the first on-line galleries specializing in ancient art. Bob made a pledge to himself (and to his early clients) that he would treat them the way his favorite galleries and dealers treated him. That meant a lifetime guarantee of authenticity and a policy to help educate any client who asked for even the smallest bit of help – whether they purchased or not.
