Lot 302, Auction 5/30/2017: 5th C. Saxon Bronze Applique - Floral Design

Northern Europe, Saxon or Anglo-Saxon culture, ca. 5th to 8th century CE. A pretty cast bronze applique or plaque in a floral form, with a raised boss in the center and petals alternating between concave and convex. The concave petals may have once had inlaid enamel, which was a common Saxon style. This item may have been sewn onto clothing or attached to a saddle. Comes with custom stand. Size: 1.95" W x 1.8" H (5 cm x 4.6 cm); height on stand: 2.5" (6.4 cm)

Condition: Dark patina over surface; very slight bend to form.
